Write for us

We welcome pitches for thoughtful pieces about the moments, memories, rituals, places and objects of ordinary life. A good contribution starts with something specific and follows it with care, rather than promising that one small story explains everybody.

What to pitch

Send a concise proposal with a working title, the central idea, the detail or question that drew you to it, and a few lines about how you would shape the piece. Tell us whether it is based on personal recollection, research or both. If you have a connection that could affect how readers see the subject, mention it.

What makes a strong piece

We look for a clear point of view, concrete details and a subject that suits close, humane storytelling. Let the scale stay true: a familiar routine can be interesting without being turned into a universal rule. We value careful attribution, honest limits and prose that leaves room for the reader.

How to send it

Send proposals through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. Please send a pitch rather than a finished full-length piece unless we have asked for one. A submission is not a guarantee of publication, and we cannot promise an individual reply to every proposal.

What we believe

The ordinary is never quite ordinary

A chipped mug, a familiar walk, the pause before a door opens: small details can hold more than they first let on. We look closely without insisting every moment needs a grand meaning.
